Luke has over 25 years' experience in underground mining in a variety of roles, with the majority of time being spent in and around the drilling industry. He has senior qualifications in WHS, Risk Management, and a Cert IV in Drilling; Leadership and Management; and Underground Mining. Luke was a Managing Director of Downunder Mining Services for 6 years (2008-2014) before recommencing with VLI in late 2014. He is based at our Head Office at Beresfield, NSW.

Mitch has worked in the underground mining industry for 18 years, spending the majority of this time working with VLI. He has worked his way through the ranks from a cleanskin drill offsider to now be our NSW Drilling Manager. Mitch’s Qualifications include Cert IV's in Underground Mining; Drilling; Training & Assessment; and Leadership and Management.

Peter started in the underground drilling industry back in 1995. He commenced with VLI in 2002, progressing through various roles within the business including being VLI Drilling’s Technical Services Manager for several years, to now be our QLD Drilling Manager. Peter is based at our Mackay Office in QLD.

Craig has over 33 year's mechanical experience, 16 years of which have been in the underground coal mining Industry. A vehicle mechanic by trade, Craig worked in various workshops in the Hunter Valley before coming to VLI in 2005, working in various roles including both a workshop & underground fitter, new rig builds and commissioning team, to his current role of Australian Maintenance Manager, based at Beresfield, NSW.
Dr Frank Hungerford

Frank has worked in the underground coal industry for 42 years. From 1986, he undertook the development and introduction of in-seam and cross-measure directional drilling in the Australian underground coal industry and has refined directional drilling practices for applications in gas drainage and assessment, exploration, water management and barrier proving near old workings.
Frank joined VLI in 1999 and currently holds the position of Global Technical Services Manager. He has a Degree in Engineering (Civil), a 3rd Class Certificate of Competency (NSW Deputy’s) and in 2016 completed a PHD thesis at UOW on his work in the development of in-seam directional drilling in Australian coal mines.
IT Coordinator and Trainer

Phill has over 26 year's in and around the mining industry. Originally starting at Joy Mining at Cardiff, NSW. He helped maintain electronics on longwall equipment but primarily maintained and did survey work with METS (Mine Exploration & Technical Services) which conducted RIM surveys. In 2000 he started with AMT (Advanced Mining Technology) working as the Manufacturing and service manager. then moving to global service and training. In 2013 he started with VLI and maintains all the directional survey equipment.

Brett undertakes the designing of boreholes and the interpretation of drilling data for all of our Australian sites. At last count, Brett had designed over 2500 boreholes!
He joined the VLI team back in 2005, coming to us with a Civil Engineering background in the design team. He then spent 3 years underground learning the directional drilling game, transitioning into his current role of Tech Services Officer.
As well as Civil and Structural Engineering qualifications, Brett also has a Cert IV in Drilling Operations and a Cert IV in Training and Assessment.

Adam has worked for several major global OEM’s in the mining and rail industries in strategic procurement and vendor relations capacities. He started his career of some 20 years ago at Teterin Engineering in Newcastle. He has an Advanced Diploma in Supply Chain, A Diploma in Public Procurement and holds an ERP system certification. Adam commenced with VLI in 2020 and is based at Beresfield, NSW.
